God Has AAA, Too!
I have belonged to AAA for years. As a woman traveling alone, I knew I could not manage a break-down along the highway by myself. How many times did they send a truck to change a flat tire, charge a battery, or tow my stalled car? AAA was a phone call away!
What I appreciated even more was their trip-routing service. Before modern GPS technology became available, planning a trip meant making a visit to the local AAA office. When I told them my destination, a representative went to work pulling maps from pockets on the wall and putting together a spiral-bound 'atlas' of my trip. Lots and lots of map insets!!
Once assembled, the representative used a felt-tipped marker to trace my journey page by page along highways and roads from start to finish. There was no mistaking where I was supposed to go. It was all boldly outlined.
That map packet had top priority once I started my trip. I could get out of town and down the road a few miles on my own, but then I opened the packet and began following my outlined route. If there were construction zones or detours to avoid or be aware of, they were marked so I knew when to expect them. Otherwise, I sped down the highway toward my destination.
The maps didn't just illustrate and guide my route, though. Each page contained names of natural sights I could visit along the way like monuments, forests, historic buildings and even hotels or motels if I chose to stop for the night. Everything I needed to watch for was included page by page as I drove. Those maps became a constant reference for me to avoid losing my way and detouring unnecessarily. And, when I followed them without fault, I arrived safe and sound!
In just the same manner, Jesus said about Himself: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6). This single statement confirms that the only way to arrive where the Father is, Eternity in Heaven, is by following Jesus. He is the WAY, the Living Word of God, a roadmap given to us in writing so we do not need to err from the route. When we reach intersections that beckon us to stray from the straight and narrow, we can stay on the right road by listening to His voice.
Jesus said He is the TRUTH. Lies and falsehoods hedge our trip route. The devil devises all sorts of schemes and tricks to distract and divert our attention from following the route outlined by Jesus. Satan wants us to try out roads such as humanism, New Age, and transcendental meditation that have lots of 'sound', but no sense to them and contain dangerous pitfalls! With every detour he offers, the devil has traps along the way to take us on a downhill course that leads to hell and prevent our finding the correct route again. Many never do.
Jesus says also that he is the LIFE. Life is everything we are, everything we do. It encompasses our entire being and length of days. The Bible says we are to be clothed in Jesus; we are to put Him on as a garment. He is to be our very breath. "In Him we live and move and exist" (Acts 17:28). Is that possible? Oh, yes, or He would not have said so.
It IS possible to know Him so well and to be so submitted and obedient to Him that His thoughts become our thoughts, His loves our loves, His hatred for sin our hatred. He becomes our All in All lived out as we walk the journey called Life.
One day that route will take us to the Eternal City of God where we will rejoice around His throne. "Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory" (I Peter 1:8). That is our destination and Jesus is our road map! Follow Him closely, read His Word, seek Him in prayer, and obey all He says to you! "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me." Have a blessed trip! See you there!
