  2. Give thanks to the God of gods, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  3. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  4. To Him who alone does great wonders, for His faithfulness is everlasting;
  5. To Him who made the heavens with skill, for His faithfulness is everlasting;
  6. To Him who spread out the earth above the waters, for His faithfulness is everlasting;
  7. To Him who made the great lights, for His faithfulness is everlasting:
  8. The sun to rule by day, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  9. The moon and stars to rule by night, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  10. To Him who struck the Egyptians, that is, their firstborn, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  11. And brought Israel out from their midst, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  12. With a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  13. To Him who divided the Red Sea in parts, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  14. And allowed Israel to pass through the midst of it, for His faithfulness is everlasting;
  15. But He overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  16. To Him who led His people through the wilderness, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  17. To Him who struck great kings, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  18. And brought death to mighty kings, for His faithfulness is everlasting:
  19. Sihon, king of the Amorites, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  20. And Og, king of Bashan, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  21. And gave their land as an inheritance, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  22. An inheritance to His servant Israel, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  23. Who remembered us in our lowliness, for His faithfulness is everlasting,
  24. And has rescued us from our enemies, for His faithfulness is everlasting;
  25. Who gives food to all flesh, for His faithfulness is everlasting.
  26. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His faithfulness is everlasting.

What a joyous psalm this is! Each phrase exalts God in some aspect of His being, all to His glory, FOR HIS FAITHFULNESS IS EVERLASTING!

Lines 1-3 exalt God as God Himself. God above all gods. They lift Him up as do the first three of the Ten Commandments. He is first and above all---and He is good. Consummate goodness! We are instructed to thank God for Who He is!!

Lines 4-9 extol Him as the Creator of all things. All power, all originality, all intricacies of design are innate qualities of His Person. As Creator, He is before and above all things! Most and best of all, He is man's creator.

Lines 10-22 enumerate and call to remembrance all God did for Israel to form her as a nation and His people. He worked miracle after miracle to bring Israel into the Promised Land and then to give it to her.

Lines 23-25 declare His mercies to mere humans in our lowly condition; He protects us from our enemies, and is no respecter of persons when He provides sustenance for all.

Line26 admonishes each of us to give thanks to God for His goodness to us.

And, the psalm instructs that because of each quality of God's character, we ought to give Him thanks!

Did you know that if and when you truly thank God for His attributes, you have humbled yourself to praise Him? Conversely, do you understand that when you withhold thanks from God, you display your unwillingness to be humble at His feet, and you proudly elevate yourself above Him?

Do you realize how blessed YOU are to know that God is God? Think of all the Gen Xers and the rest of kids after them who have been raised in a nation that extruded God from its culture, so that it isn't normal or even acceptable anymore to talk about God except by using His names as a curse word? While you take knowing about God for granted, millions of other Americans find the word "Jesus" foreign to them.

Are you conscious of being blessed that you know for a surety that God is the Creator of the universe? Do you fathom that our kids in school are taught as fact that this world and the universe evolved from nothing? That there is no Supreme Mind Who wove all the intricacies of the universe into perfect patterns of relationships with each other? Are you aware that the fundamental foundation for everything else you are spiritually is knowing with absolute certainty that God is the Creator and Sustainer of ALL THINGS? How blessed you truly are!

How blessed you are to have the Old Testament as documentation of God's justness, fairness and righteousness when you read how He took care of Israel as a nation? You don't have to blindly believe Him, but can read and see that He provided safety, food and other provisions, a homeland, and the way for the Jewish nation to know God and follow His ways?

Likewise, God gave us the New Testament to show us the Gospel in His Son, Jesus. He reveals within its pages what the future holds and how we are to walk in holiness into what lies ahead for us with Jesus as the Victor!

Being thankful, truly thankful from your heart and telling God you are thankful for Him and Who He is is the attitude and heart-set of a person in submission to Him and in joyous fellowship with Him! Gladly acknowledge that all blessings come from the hand of God and are not the result of your own prowess and strength. How blessed we are to be able to worship Him and be thankful!

Psalm 136 gives us the reason we can be so secure in our God: Because His faithfulness is everlasting! He will never change! For all eternity He is as He always will be. He is the same today as yesterday and forever. He extends Himself to you in love eternally. Put your complete trust and faith in Him and Him alone. This world is fading away and will perish. So will everything in it. But God is the solid Rock on whom you can anchor ALL your confidence and love. For He is everlasting and worthy of all our devotion! Give Him thanks!
