SIGNS OF THE TIMES
I drove 50 miles to see a wild life refuge, only to miss a road sign and my destination! By the time I discovered my error, it was too late to retrace my steps and look for the refuge. I missed out on seeing what I had purposely come to enjoy! All because I didn't observe a marker where I should have turned.
When our dog needed surgery for hip dysplasia, we took her to the vet school at one of the regional universities. Because our trip there preceded the GPS era, I had to depend on printed directions from the internet that I followed carefully.
As we came closer to the school, I realized we were on the same route that led to my mother's eye specialist. The closer we got, the more familiar the streets became. We had to go just a few more miles and we arrived at the vet school compound! All along the way, familiar as it was, I had never before noticed signs mounted on posts directing me to the vet school. I never 'saw' them while we drove to the doctor's office, because I wasn't looking for them! Yet, they were there all the time!
When the Sadducees and Pharisees tried to corner Jesus by asking Him for a sign to prove who He was, Jesus had a comeback! These were the religious leaders of their day. They claimed to know God's word backward and forward and that they were living up to the smallest detail of it. Now they approached the One Who had given them that written word through Moses thousands of years earlier and tried to get Jesus to prove He was God!
Surely they knew that Jesus healed the blind and lame, raised people from the dead and turned five loaves and two fishes into a meal that fed 5000 men plus women and children. Of course they did! Word of mouth was their newspaper! Undoubtedly, they were too proud to ever follow Jesus with the crowds wherever He went, so they wanted a private demo!
In the Old Testament God gave this warning: "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah" (Deuteronomy 6:16). The Pharisees and Sadducees knew that verse well. It is part of the Torah which they had mastered intellectually. But, in heart and spirit, they had not let the Torah master them!
Now they stood before God Incarnate, testing Him against His command not to test God, challenging Jesus to show them a sign. He WAS their sign, but they failed to see Him. They could read the natural signs in the heavens, but not the spiritual One standing before them! Hence, they completely missed their salvation in spite of being very religious and proud of it!
Jesus countered their demand with the only sign they would receive: His resurrection from the dead just as Jonah had foreshadowed. Dubious as they were, the Pharisees and Sadducees did not get the message at all!
Fearfully, many people today, including those in the Church, are unaware of Jesus' warning in Matthew 24 concerning the Last Days. Therefore, they do not see His predictions playing out in the world around them. Not being conscious of the signs of the times and their significance drives them to listen to worldly voices in the media and elsewhere to learn the meaning of everyday happenings in America and the world at large.
The watchword today is "Listen to science!!" Science is the world's substitute for God and listening to and obeying Him. Science 'explains' happenings and occurrences according to the devil's playbook, not the Bible. By not understanding what truly is going on, they put themselves in jeopardy for the emergence of the antichrist and his ploys to snatch eternal life from them forever. Taking the mark of the Beast will seal their fate and doom them eternally in hell.
Wake up, Church! Read your Bible! Take heed to what God has given you as signs in the natural elements and society, as well. Do not take your cues from the culture and what people at large proclaim as truth. Find and know God for yourself. Listen to His voice and obey what He shows you. Your soul is in the balance! Eternity is forever!
